As a collector of trombone recordings, I have come across many CDs that are not readily available in North America. This discography is a list of CDs by trombone soloists and ensembles from all over the world, and now contains over 1000 CDs! As this list will grow steadily, you may want to bookmark this page and refer to it periodically for updates. I have provided links to the recording companies with websites to help those who would like to obtain any of these CDs.
My interest in performing new music has led me to search for more trombone repertoire written by Canadian composers. Searches on the Canadian Music Centre database have proved fruitful, and the biographies and websites of associate composers have turned up even more pieces. The CMC was also kind enough to print a request for more information in their newsletter, and this has turned up still more. As a result, my list has grown larger than I had ever anticipated, proving that Canadian music is alive and well. I hope this list will provide a valuable resource to help other trombonists expand their repertoire.
I can't estimate the number of times I have been presented with a trombone part where the writing is decidedly non-idiomatic. It has inspired me to prepare some helpful suggestions for composers who may be interested in writing effectively for the trombone.
